Kemaren, partisi /dev/hda5 yang mengandung Scientific Linux di laptop lama Acer Travelmate 2423 saya hapus, karena pengen 'cut and paste' iOS. Karena cut and paste belum selesai sementara partisi sudah bersih (termasuk menu.lst), maka laptopnya hanya menampilkan grub prompt.

Pagi ini, saya nyontek loadernya grub menu.lst di desktop kantor karena sama2 Debian Lenny, cuman beda partisi doang.
Berikut urut2an perintah yang ditulis di grub prompt sampai komputer booting ke Debian di partisi /dev/hda6
grub> root (hd0,5)
grub> kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.26-2-686 root=/dev/hda6 ro quiet
grub> initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.26-2-686
grub> boot
Setelah masuk di Debian, tinggal install ulang grub:
$ grub-install /dev/hda

Acer Timeline 3810TG-944G50n
Alhamdulillah, I just got a new Acer Timeline 3810TG-944G50n. It's been a while for the wait 'til Hartono get it one for me this rare thing!
Bad news, the 8 hours battery life is for Vista and I don't really see that the OS is for me. Debian stable (Lenny) installs well but the kernel (2.6.26) is not very much for Su 9400, Intel WiFi Link 5100 neither Attansic Tech Corp Network. Note that I use Debian Lenny and iOS (Kubuntu 8.10, kernel 2.6.28-generic). Below is roadmap:
Screen

Processor Intel SU9400
"Penryn-3M" (ultra-low-voltage, 45 nm, Small Form Factor), Core 2 Duo Mobile family (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Core_2_microprocessors#.22Penryn-3M.22_.28medium-voltage.2C_45_nm.29)
Graphic cards (ATI Radeon HD 3300)
Debian Lenny runs VESA on this machine but I can't hack any further to make the LED monitor to run 1300x768.
Search on ati.com shows Radeon HD 3300 is with ATI Catalyst driver (download file is 83MB, which is sad for my internet connection).
Thread in Ubuntu forum (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=7680447) tells Debian Sid make ATI HD 4330 work with fglrx driver. Hum.. lovely.
Wireless network (Intel WiFi Link 5100)
Debian Lenny (kernel 2.6.26-2-686) don't turn wireless on. However, iOS (kubuntu 8.10, kernel 2.6.28-generic) enlive it fine. Copying the latest kernel into Lenny don't help. Search is still on.
Wired ethernet (Attansic Tech Corp Dev 1063)
http://www.hogchain.net/attansic/attansic.html tells that the hardware is with Attansic L1 product family.
Search is still on.
Debian testing CD
Done with both netinst and KDE installer, stops at
INFO: kbd-mode: setting console mode to Unicode (UTF-8)
To do:
1. Debian Lenny
- Pasang ulang
- Install kernel 2.6.30 atau 2.6.31 sekalian (atau ngikut thread di sid)
- nyalain wlan
- edit xorg seperti puppy (vesa?), upgrade dengan ati catalyst 2.7
2. iOS
- Kopi dari Acer lama
- dioprek selayaknya Lenny atau ngikut thread di launchpad

Synaptic via proxy
Kalau sering pindah network antara yang berproxy dan tidak, perlu diperhatikan file eksistensi file /etc/apt/apt.conf atau yang semacam.
Di lingkungan dengan proxy, perlu diset satu file diatas dengan cara:
$sudo nano /etc/apt/apt.conf
tuliskan 1 baris dibawah:
Acquire::http::Proxy "http://202.46.240.76:3128/";
ctr+x (save and quit)
$ sudo apt-get update
$sudo apt-get install aplikasi-pilihan-anda
Lingkunan tanpa proxy biasanya lingkungan umum yang koneksi internetnya dengan modem. Misalnya dari rumah dengan modem GSM, HSDPA, CDMA, kabel atau jalur umum lain yang tanpa proxy (lingkungan wireless/hotspot).
Lingkungan berproxy misalnya jaringan terbatas seperti di lingkungan perkantoran.
